The Howell Main Street Difference

Howell Main Street Inc. is a Nationally-Accredited Main Street downtown revitalization program developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and coordinated through the Michigan Main Street Center. The Main Street Program is a community-driven, comprehensive strategy encouraging economic development through historic preservation, utilizing the Four-Point Approach, including Design, Economic Revitalization/Development, Organization/Outreach, and Promotions Committees.

Howell Main Street Inc. relies upon numerous volunteers to serve on committees, volunteer for events, and other tasks. We are currently seeking volunteers to serve on the following committees:

OUTREACH

The Outreach Committee involves creating a strong foundation for a sustainable downtown including cultivating partnerships, achieving fundraising goals, increasing community involvement, and recruitment and retention of our most valuable resource—volunteers!

DESIGN

The Design Committee helps enhance the downtown’s physical environment by capitalizing on its best assets, like historic buildings, and creating an inviting atmosphere through attractive window displays, seasonal décor, parking areas, building improvements, streetscapes, and landscaping. The Committee also focuses on instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district, enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction and signage, and participation in long-term planning.

PROMOTIONS & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

The Promotions & Business Development Committee markets downtown Howell’s unique characteristics to residents, visitors, investors, business owners, and other stakeholders. This Committee develops a positive promotional strategy through advertising, retail activities, special events, and marketing campaigns to encourage commercial activity and investment in the area. New and existing businesses are assisted by the committee’s focus on incentives and other economic and financial tools to catalyze property development, and to create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators driving the local economy.
