Pysanky: Traditional Wax Batik Egg Art

About the event

Discover the beautiful and fascinating art of Pysanky, a centuries-old wax batik technique used to create intricate designs on eggs. Originating in Ukraine and practiced throughout Eastern Europe, Pysanky are rich in symbolism, tradition, and storytelling.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the traditional process of creating a Pysanka using a special wax-writing tool, beeswax, and multiple layers of vibrant dyes. As wax is applied and colors are added one layer at a time, complex patterns gradually emerge, revealing a finished design that is both meaningful and unique. Whether you’re new to Pysanky or returning to the craft, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the process while exploring traditional symbols, color meanings, and design techniques. No artistic experience is necessary.

All tools and materials are provided for use during class. You’ll leave with your own completed Pysanka and the skills to continue exploring this treasured folk art tradition. MI Craft House carries a full line a Pysanky writing tools, dyes and other supplies for purchase in our shop if you would like to continue writing Pysanky at home.

3 or more weeks before the workshop: full refund.

2–3 weeks before the workshop: full credit toward a future workshop

Less than 2 weeks before : non-refundable, but you may transfer your spot to someone else. If you are unable to attend and cannot transfer your ticket, some workshops may offer the option to pick up the supplies used in class at a later date. However, this is not available for all workshops.

By registering for this Mi Craft House class, you acknowledge that crafting involves the use of tools, materials, and equipment that can be sharp, hot, or messy. You accept all responsibility for your own safety and the safety of any minors you bring, and release Mi Craft House, its staff, and instructors from any liability for injury, damage, or loss of personal property that may occur during the class.

Photo / Social Media Waiver

By participating in this class, you grant Mi Craft House permission to take photographs or videos of you and your work for use in promotional materials, social media, or educational content. You understand that you will not receive compensation for this use, and that images may be used at the studio’s discretion.  (you may opt out of photos/media during checkout)
