Committees

The Howell Main Street Difference

Howell Main Street Inc. is a Nationally Accredited Main Street downtown revitalization program, developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and coordinated through the Michigan Main Street Center. As a community-driven, comprehensive revitalization strategy, we champion economic development through historic preservation using the Four-Point Approach — encompassing Design, Economic Vitality, Organization, and Promotions.

At the heart of everything we do are our volunteers. From serving on committees to supporting events and community initiatives, Howell Main Street depends on passionate people who believe in the future of downtown Howell. We’re currently looking for volunteers to join the following committees:

ECONOMIC VITALITY

The Economic Vitality Committee focuses on strengthening downtown’s business environment and creating opportunities for growth. The committee draws on the E3 (Equitable Entrepreneurial Ecosystem) framework provided through Main Street America to better support existing businesses, guide new ones, and identify ways to strengthen resources for entrepreneurs and business owners at every stage.

Meets the 2nd Thursday of every month | 11:00 AM | HMS/DDA Office, 118 W. Clinton Street

DESIGN

The Design Committee works to elevate downtown Howell’s physical character by celebrating its greatest assets — especially its historic architecture. Committee members help shape an inviting district through façade and sign improvement grant opportunities, landscaping, floral and seasonal décor, public art, streetscape improvements, and historic preservation efforts. The Design Committee also oversees the Art in the Garden subcommittee.

Meets the 1st Tuesday, every other month (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov) | 5:00 PM | HMS/DDA Office, 118 W. Clinton Street

PROMOTIONS

The Promotions Committee markets downtown Howell as a center of commerce, culture, and community life. Through events, promotions, and strategic communications, this committee builds a positive image of downtown and drives foot traffic and investment. The Promotions Committee oversees the Sponsorship Committee and all major event committees, including Food Truck Tuesdays/Rally, Rock the Block, and more.

Meets the 1st Wednesday, every other month (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov) | 9:00 AM | HMS/DDA Office, 118 W. Clinton Street

ORGANIZATION

The Organization Committee builds the internal foundation that makes everything else possible. This committee focuses on volunteer recruitment, appreciation, and retention; revitalizing the HMS donor program; and strengthening communications through social media, newsletters, and the website — all in support of growing our organizational capacity.

Meets the 2nd Monday, every other month (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov) | 5:30 PM | HMS/DDA Office, 118 W. Clinton Street
